    Prunus x okame

The Okame cherry grows 15 to 20 feet high and wide. When young, the tree grows quickly and exhibits a columnar growth habit. As it approaches maturity, the crown becomes much more rounded. The delicate 1 to 2.5-inch leaves are dark green and turn shades of yellow, orange, and red in the fall. Deep maroon buds open to single pink flowers with red calyces. The tree’s bark is a polished reddish-bronze. Although flowering is Okame’s main attribute, its fall color and attractive bark make it a tree for all seasons. Grows best in zones 5-8
